So I finally tried that weird honey trick on a hot pour in Phoenix
Honestly, I thought the old guy at the supply house in Mesa was messing with me when he said to add a tiny bit of honey to the wash water on a 95-degree day. Ngl, we were desperate last week on a driveway, so we tried maybe a quarter cup in a 5-gallon bucket. It actually slowed the set just enough to get a beautiful finish without that crusty top layer. Has anyone else used something weird like that on a brutal summer job?

Sounds like a messy hack that could attract every ant in the neighborhood. In my experience, a proper retarder is cheaper and more reliable than turning your job site into a picnic.

Turning your job site into a picnic" is the perfect way to put it. You'll spend more time cleaning up bugs and sticky messes than you ever saved on the pour. Just buy the right stuff for the job.
