Had my best week ever on a bathroom remodel in Boise, or did I just get lucky with the homeowner?
Last week I wrapped a full bathroom gut in Boise, and the homeowner brought me coffee every morning and never once changed the scope, which almost never happens. My buddy says the smooth jobs are just luck and you should charge more when you sense an easy client, but I think a good homeowner is worth more than the extra markup because you actually finish on time. Do you guys price in the pain of a bad client up front or just take the good weeks when they come?
Used to be all about that pain tax, I'd tack on extra because I just knew some client was gonna be a headache. Had one lady in Meridian who changed her tile pick three times and measured every cut I made with a tape, that job taught me to pad the bid. But then I started noticing the easy ones finish faster and I can stack another job after, so I'm not really losing money. The coffee part sounds small but a homeowner who trusts you means you're not redoing stuff, and that's hours back in your pocket. These days I'd rather do five smooth jobs than three fat ones with a guy breathing down my neck.
