TIL old-school plaster cracks don't always mean a foundation issue like they used to

I mean, after chasing ghosts in a hundred-year-old house, I finally learned to check for seasonal shifting first before calling in the big guns.

Watch for crack patterns that open and close with the seasons.

How much time did you spend worrying before figuring that out? Old houses have a way of making every little sound or crack feel like a disaster waiting to happen. It's a real relief to learn some things are just normal settling.

Old houses have a way of making every little sound feel like a disaster" is so true. I read once that a lot of the pops and creaks are just wood and nails moving with temperature changes. It helped me relax a bit.
