Heard a 20-year cosmetologist say she never uses thinning shears anymore...

Was waiting for my turn at the supply store in Akron last Tuesday and this older stylist was telling the girl at the counter she tossed all her thinning shears out years ago. Said they just create frizz and split ends that show up weeks later. She was pretty firm about it, saying she only uses point cutting and slide cutting now for texture. I've been using thinning shears on thick hair my whole career... got me wondering if I'm behind the times. Has anyone else dropped thinning shears completely?

...and honestly I think she's onto something because I started phasing mine out about a year ago and my haircuts have been holding up way better. The frizz thing is real, I see it all the time with clients who come in after getting their hair done somewhere else and the ends look ragged after a few weeks. Point cutting takes a little longer but the texture is so much softer and it doesn't wreck the hair over time. I still keep a pair around for really stubborn thick spots but I'm barely touching them anymore.

Honestly, you're dead on about the frizz thing. I switched to mostly point cutting last year and my own hair doesn't look like a broom after a month anymore. The ragged ends from scissors is real, it just shreds the cuticle over time. Point cutting takes a bit more patience but the result is way softer and lasts longer. I still keep a pair for bulk removal on really thick hair, but barely use them otherwise. It's one of those little changes that makes a huge difference.
