Tried a purple toner on my orange hair and got green streaks instead

Figured I'd save $40 at the salon by toning my brassiness at home with a drugstore purple shampoo. Left it on for 10 minutes and ended up with minty green patches around my temples. Has anyone else mixed warm and cool tones and regretted it?

oh man, i've totally been there. i used a blue shampoo once to cancel out orange and it just left me with these swampy green streaks near my hairline. it's like the color theory works too well sometimes and you end up with a science experiment gone wrong on your head. i swear these purple shampoos are way stronger than they advertise, leaving it on for five minutes still makes me nervous now.
