Spent 40 minutes trying to get player 2 to join a co-op game last night

My buddy came over to play the new TMNT game on my Switch, and it took us 40 minutes just to figure out how to get a second player into the match. The menu says 'press L to join' but nothing happens when you do it, and we had to restart the console twice before it finally worked. I swear couch co-op used to be simpler back in the GameCube days where you just plug in a controller and go. Has anyone else hit this wall with modern games where the local multiplayer setup feels like a puzzle in itself?

Oh MAN I feel your pain on this one! But I gotta gently correct you on something - it wasn't always THAT simple on GameCube. I remember spending like 15 minutes trying to figure out why my WaveBird wasn't syncing for Mario Kart Double Dash, had to dig out the receiver and everything. Still way easier than today's mess though, I'll give you that. The thing with the Switch is it sometimes forgets it's in docked mode or thinks you're using a single JoyCon, so the "press L" prompt is a total lie half the time. Restarting the console is honestly the go-to fix for like 90% of these issues, but it shouldn't be that way. Developers really need to put a "second player press start on controller" prompt instead of hiding it in weird menu settings.

Wait, 40 minutes? Not gonna lie that would've had me throwing the controller through the TV. Like how hard is it to just let us plug in a second controller and play
