The abandoned train station in Detroit made me rethink horror settings
I walked through Michigan Central Station last week before the renovation finished and the dead silence hit different than any haunted house I've written about. Has anyone else used real abandoned places for inspiration and found it changed your whole approach to atmosphere?

Yeah, I read something similar about how real decay hits different than staged horror. Heard someone say the echo in a genuinely empty building has this hollow feel you can't fake with props. I think that's why places like Pripyat or the old Packard Plant work so well for writers. The silence there isn't just quiet, it's heavy with everything that used to happen. You can't write that feeling without standing in it first.
