My ice cream pun bombed at the school talent show

I was at my kid's middle school talent show last Friday in Cincinnati. I got up on stage and said 'I was going to tell a joke about ice cream but it's too cold for that.' Complete silence. Then a kid in the front row yelled 'that's not even a joke.' My daughter sank into her seat like she wanted to disappear. I walked off stage and the principal gave me a thumbs down from the wings. Has anyone else had a pun just crash and burn in front of a crowd like that?

Yo that is brutal, I once told a "light bulb" joke at a family reunion and my own grandma said "you should have left that one in the socket". Middle school crowds are the worst cause they're figuring out what's funny and they'll just roast you for trying. At least you got a thumbs down from the principal, that's a visual you can laugh about later.

Cincinnati crowds are the toughest audience I've ever seen.
