My friend shuffled my anniversary deck into his magic trick in Baton Rouge
Last month I brought my custom deck to game night, the one I spent 40 bucks on with gold foil edges and a custom back design. My buddy Dave, who does card tricks, grabbed it without asking and tried his famous rising card routine. Halfway through, he fanned the deck and four cards flew out, one landing in a bowl of chili and another sliding under the couch. Turns out he had palmed two cards, and the chili card was completely ruined beyond saving. I managed to dry the other three but the gold foil is peeling on the edges now. Dave apologized and offered to buy me a new deck, but mine is out of print. Has anyone had a deck survive a magic gone wrong or do I just have to frame the mangled one as a war story?

Dave probably thought he was pulling off a magic trick, but he really just pulled off a one-man disaster movie. My favorite deck met a similar end when my cousin tried to do a waterfall shuffle over a campfire, now it's just a pile of crispy cards I keep in a baggie as a cautionary tale. The foiled edges peeling sounds like a sledgehammer to the soul though, I'd honestly frame it with a little plaque that says "RIP, dear friend" and call it art.
