Talked to a card mechanic at a coin shop in Portland, now I'm rethinking everything about my deck care
Guy was in his 70s, been handling cards since the 60s. He told me he never uses fanning powder or humidity packs. Said they mess with the natural glide over time. He just keeps decks in a ziplock with a silica packet and rotates them every 2 weeks. Said, "A deck is a tool, not a pet." That hit different. I've been babying my customs with sprays and oils for years. Maybe that's why some of my older decks feel tacky now. Anyone else ever get told to stop doing the extra stuff and just let the cards breathe?

Well, you hit the nail on the head there. I stopped using powders on my own decks years ago after noticing the same sticky buildup, and honestly plain air and regular rotation works just fine. Keep it simple, and your cards will last longer than any fancy spray will ever help.
