Unpopular opinion: I think digital tuners are ruining diesel work
Was out in Odessa, Texas last month helping a buddy with a 6.7 Powerstroke. He was stuck on a code for hours with his laptop. I walked over, listened to the idle for 30 seconds, and pointed at a fuel injector harness. Fixed it with a multimeter and my ears. He spent $400 on that tuner and it still missed the obvious. Am I the only one who thinks we rely too much on screens now?

I had to laugh at @blairwhite calling it fear. Last time I checked, using your ears and a $40 multimeter isn't being scared of technology, it's just using common sense. My buddy out in Odessa spent half a day chasing ghost codes with that fancy tuner while I had the harness fixed before his coffee went cold. Screens are great for logging data and fine-tuning, but they don't replace knowing the basic sounds and feel of a diesel engine. It's like a chef who only uses a microwave and forgets how to use a stovetop. So no, not scared of new tech - just not willing to let a computer do my thinking for me.

Spending $400 to still miss a bad harness is the real problem. A good ear beats a fancy screen every time.
