Got 3 commissions in one day last fall and felt like a rockstar for a week

Back in October I had this random Tuesday where I posted a quick sketch of a raccoon eating a slice of pizza on my art page. Within like 4 hours three different people messaged me asking for custom pieces. One wanted their D&D party drawn, another asked for a portrait of their cat wearing a cowboy hat, and the third just said draw whatever you want. Felt wild because I usually go weeks without a single nibble. I ended up staying up till 2am that whole week finishing them all. The cat one got shared on some local vet's facebook page and brought in like 12 more requests over the next month. Has anyone else had a random spike like that where everything just lines up for no clear reason?

Waited my whole life for that kind of magic and it happened on a random Tuesday while I was doodling garbage animals. Spent the next three weeks frantically drawing cats in hats and pretending I knew how to draw D&D characters I'd never heard of. The worst part is now my art page is just raccoons and cats in cowboy hats because that's the only thing that ever sells anymore. Guess I'm a furry wildlife portrait artist now whether I like it or not.

Oh man, @the_jason I totally feel you on the "now my art page is just raccoons and cats in cowboy hats" thing. I was in a similar spot where I kept getting asked for the same type of painting over and over, so I started sliding in one weird new animal every month just to keep my sanity. Did you try doing a series where you mix those garbage animals with something totally random, like a raccoon in a space helmet?
