Hit 500 followers on my art account last night and I'm still confused

I've been posting my digital paintings for about 8 months now, mostly just sketches and fan art. Last night I suddenly hit 500 followers and I have no idea why that specific number matters more than 400 or 300 did. Is there some kind of social media algorithm thing that kicks in at certain milestones? Has anyone else felt weird about hitting a random number like that?

Just enjoy the moment and keep doing what you're doing, the numbers are just a side effect of people liking your work. 500 just feels bigger because it's a rounder number and the algorithm tends to push you a little more once you hit those tidy milestones.

The algorithm actually does a weird thing where it doesn't just push you at round numbers, but also at follower counts that match your current post's engagement ratio. I've seen people stuck at 489 for weeks then suddenly jump to 512 overnight after one post blows up, but the real kicker is that 500 is also the point where the platform's automated "suggested accounts" lists start including you more often. It's like the system has a soft gatekeeping system that unlocks better placement once you cross certain thresholds. So while the numbers are technically just a side effect, they do absolutely change how the platform treats your account.
