That moment I compared my old digital art portfolio to my new one, wow what a difference 18 months makes

I was cleaning out my hard drive last night and found my portfolio from early 2023. The compositions were so flat and the colors were muddy, just basic layers with no depth. Then I looked at my current work and realized the huge change came from learning about lighting and atmosphere, specifically after I started studying how other artists handle shadows in their landscapes. Honestly, it was like seeing two different artists. Has anyone else gone back to their old stuff and felt that weird mix of cringe and pride?

But does that cringe make you try harder on the next piece?

Read somewhere that growth as an artist is just becoming better at seeing your own mistakes, sounds about right here.
