Swapped my gas mower for a reel mower three years ago and it's a whole different game

I used to spend every Saturday morning trying to get my old gas push mower started. Yanking that cord over and over, smelling gas fumes, worrying about the oil level. Then three years ago I grabbed a manual reel mower off Craigslist for like 40 bucks. The guy selling it said his wife made him clear the garage. I almost laughed at how light it felt when I picked it up. But honestly that thing cuts so much cleaner than my gas one ever did. The grass doesn't get those brown tips from torn blades. Downside is it chokes on tall weeds and thick clumps, so I have to stay on top of it every 5 to 6 days. Anyone else made the switch and found a trick for handling the overgrown patches?

My buddy tried leaving his on the highest setting and it still stalled out on dandelions, real bummer.

Caught my buddy trying to mow his parents lawn with a similar model last summer. It just gave up on some clover patches in the back yard, started making this grinding noise and then died. He had to drag it back to the garage and finish with the old push mower lol. Now he just borrows the neighbor's riding mower for anything taller than 3 inches.
