Diner waitress called me out for adding cream to gas station coffee

Last week a waitress at a diner in Akron told me that cream just masks the burnt taste and that a pinch of salt actually fixes it. I tried it with a $2.50 cup from the station by my work and holy crap she was right - the bitterness just vanished. Has anyone else gotten this weird tip from a stranger?

My buddy Dave heard the same thing from an old guy at a diner in Toledo and tried it with his morning gas station coffee. He said it worked but now he can't drink coffee without a salt shaker nearby.

Betty's wrong on this one. Salt in coffee is an old trick, sure, but it doesn't fix bad beans. It just makes you drink something that's still burnt, now with a little salt in it.
