TIL heating element placement matters more than I thought
Had a guy at a Halloween meetup tell me my fog machine was "chuffing" and looked weak. He said I had my heating element too close to the tank. I moved it up about 3 inches and now I get steady white smoke for 6 minutes straight. Anyone else run into this issue with those cheap aquarium heaters?

Not gonna lie, calling it "chuffing" and acting like that's a real term feels a little much for a Halloween fog machine. I mean if it worked fine before and you just had to bump it a few inches, was it really that big of a deal? Feels like people get way too hung up on the perfect setup for something that's basically a party trick.

Honestly, I'm with you on this one. People act like their fog machine is some precision scientific instrument when it's literally just a glorified kettle with a pump. If it made fog before and it makes fog now, who cares if the vapor wiggles a little on the way out.
