Talked to a 30-year drafter last week who said he still uses a 2H pencil for all his preliminary layouts

He told me he's never opened AutoCAD for a rough sketch and honestly it made me wonder if I lean too hard on software for stuff that should just be quick hand work, anyone else find themselves reaching for the mouse instead of a pencil when you really don't need to?

Hand drafting definitely has its place but software speeds things up way more.

The speed difference is actually massive when you factor in revisions. Clients change their minds constantly, and hand drafting means starting over or using whiteout on every tiny adjustment. Software lets you tweak dimensions or layouts in seconds and print a fresh set. Hand drafting is great for initial brainstorming when you want to feel the paper and work through ideas slowly. But for any project with deadlines or multiple stakeholders, digital wins every time. The undo button alone probably saves hours per week lol.
