The $10 corner trowel I was dead wrong about
I always thought those cheap plastic corner trowels were a joke. Picked one up at Home Depot in Austin last Tuesday just to see. Ran it on a 90 degree corner in a closet and it laid mud perfectly smooth first pass. No more fighting with my metal one that leaves ridges. Anybody else find a tool they assumed was junk that actually works?

That thing about letting the mud set up is key. I did the same mistake on a little bathroom corner and had mud sliding everywhere. Actually reminds me of when I bought a super cheap foam roller for texture at Harbor Freight. Thought it would fall apart after one use but it laid down orange peel better than the expensive ones. Used it on three whole ceilings before the foam started flaking off.

The real secret with those plastic corner trowels is you gotta let the mud set up for like 5 minutes before you pull it off. I learned that the hard way on a kitchen backsplash. Now I keep one in my pouch for those tight pantry corners where the metal one always leaves a weird lip. Makes me wonder what other cheap junk I've been ignoring.
