Monitor arm gave out at 2am on a deadline

3am Tuesday. Audio file for a podcast episode due by 8. Right monitor just tilted forward. Slowly. Like it was bowing out. Heard the gas spring hiss. Had to prop it up with a stack of notebooks for the rest of the night. Cabled everything to one screen and got it done. Swapped to a gas spring arm rated for heavier weight the next afternoon. Anybody ever have a mount fail mid-session?

That "slowly tilting forward like it was bowing out" bit is honestly terrifying, lol. I had a cheap gas spring arm fail once on a 27 inch monitor and it just dropped the whole thing like a guillotine. Broke the bezel and I had to use electrical tape for a month. Your notebooks hack is actually genius though, I used a stack of textbooks and a shoe. Its wild how much difference a few pounds of rated weight makes, people dont think about the leverage when you tilt these things. Glad you got the deadline done, nothing worse than hardware dying at 2am.

Tilting forward slowly is creepy but I'd rather have that than a sudden drop like yours. @finley777 you had me at electrical tape for a month, thats dedication. People blow these monitor failures out of proportion though, its just a screen not a life support machine.
