My cousin failed the Illinois state mechanic test three times before passing. The written part on emissions and safety rules is surprisingly tricky. Good on you for sticking with it.

In Gary Indiana where I grew up, we had a guy named Mike who could rebuild any engine blindfolded but couldn't pass a written test to save his life. Took him five tries before he finally got certified. Honestly, those emissions questions trip up a lot of people who are great with their hands but struggle with the book stuff. Ngl, I think half the test is just testing how well you can memorize random regulations that don't always make sense in the real world. Glad you pushed through it though, that's a tough gate to get through.
