Gave a hydrafacial with wrong tips and it sprayed product everywhere

I was doing a hydrafacial at my booth in Phoenix last Thursday and the exfoliation tip wasn't clicking in right so I just pushed harder. Suddenly the serum started shooting sideways all over the client's shoulder and my uniform. Has anyone else had a machine misfire on them mid-service and what did you do to recover without looking like a pro?

Man that's just life though, things always go wrong when you least expect it.

Man that sounds like a mess, lol. I had something similar happen with a microdermabrasion wand once where the suction just gave up mid-session and it was just blasting dead skin everywhere like a tiny snowstorm. The client just stared at me while I tried to play it cool and pretend that was part of the normal process. I ended up just laughing it off and saying something dumb like "well, that's one way to keep you entertained." The key is to just own the awkwardness and make a joke about it before they can feel awkward themselves. Clients actually seem to relax more when you're human about it rather than trying to be all stiff and professional like nothing happened lol. Just grab a towel, clean up, swap the tip out, and get back to it like it's no big deal.

Blasting dead skin everywhere like a tiny snowstorm" is such a perfect description lol. But okay here's something nobody seems to talk about in these threads - what about the client who's actually super into the chaos? Like some people get a kick out of stuff going wrong because it makes the whole thing more memorable. I had a friend who went to get a facial once and the esthetician dropped the little scrubby thing on the floor and my friend was like "well now it's properly seasoned" and they both just cracked up. Sometimes the mess up becomes the story they tell their friends later and that's honestly better marketing than a perfect session.
