Just realized my grandma's cookie recipe has been in the family for 47 years
I was copying it out for my cousin and saw the date my mom wrote at the bottom, 1977. That means my great-grandma was making these same ginger snaps in her kitchen in Dayton. It's wild to think how many holiday plates they've been on. Does anyone else have a recipe with a specific year attached to it?

It's just a cookie recipe, not a historical document. People get weirdly sentimental about old index cards. My mom's meatloaf recipe is from a 1982 magazine, and it's still just meatloaf.

My friend Sarah found her grandma's handwritten brownie recipe on a stained notecard from 1975. She tried to make it exactly as written, but the oven temps were way off and it turned into a charcoal brick. I get what @willowc60 is saying, it's just instructions on paper, but people tie the memory of the person to the physical thing. That card was her only link to her grandma's kitchen, so losing the recipe felt like losing a piece of her, even if the brownies were a disaster.
