My grandma's old potato salad recipe from a 1974 church cookbook in Toledo is the only one I trust for picnics.

I tried three other recipes last summer before giving up and just using hers, which calls for a full cup of mayo, a tablespoon of yellow mustard, and exactly five hard-boiled eggs, and now I won't make anything else.

Exactly, old recipes just hit different.

Why do we always circle back to the old ways, @blair_green86?

Funny how that works. It's like we spend years trying fancy new things, but the old stuff just works. Same thing with my dad's lawnmower from 1985. Still starts on the first pull. Meanwhile, my neighbor's bought three new ones in ten years. People overcomplicate things now. New isn't always better. Your grandma knew what she was doing.
