My old boss in Boise told me to always use a size 8 shoe for draft crosses

I had a big Percheron cross last week with a really wide foot, and I went with a 10 instead. The fit was perfect and the owner said it was the best his horse had moved in years. I guess some old rules don't fit every horse. What's a piece of advice you were given that you ended up breaking?

That's just basic horse sense though, not some sacred rule. Fitting the individual animal matters way more than any old saying. Hardly seems like a major revelation.

Yeah, I read a blog post about how pressure mapping can show you what "fitting the individual" really means.

I mean, sure, but what does "fitting the individual animal" actually look like in practice? Like, are we talking about trying three different saddles or watching for subtle signs of discomfort? Because a lot of people just go with the old saying and call it a day.
