Serious question, I thought those $30 phone camera lenses from Amazon were a total gimmick until I tried one for a sunset shot at Lake Michigan last week.
The clip-on macro lens actually captured insane detail on some beach rocks, so has anyone else found a surprisingly decent piece of cheap tech?

Remember buying a knockoff GoPro mount for like twelve bucks at a gas station before a kayaking trip. Fully expected it to snap and send my phone to the bottom of the river. That cheap piece of plastic held on through three hours of bouncing over rocks and is still in my gear bag five years later. Sometimes the off-brand stuff is built like a tank just to prove a point. Makes you wonder what else we overpay for out of habit.

Counter that by saying you got burned buying a cheap phone charger that fried your phone's port. The real cost wasn't the charger, it was the repair bill. Sometimes the brand name stuff has quality control and warranties that actually save you money when it counts.

My friend's gas station phone case outlasted three phones. It's like what the_paige said, some of that stuff is weirdly tough. Makes you question every "premium" accessory you've ever bought.
