Vent: My friend said my studio's ventilation is basically a joke

I was showing my buddy my new garage setup, proud of the big box fan I put in the window. He's a safety guy for a big shop in Portland and just shook his head. He said, 'For the volume you're moving, you need at least 1200 CFM to actually pull the bad air away, not just stir it around.' He showed me his phone with a picture of their proper hood system. It hit different because I've been getting headaches after long sessions and just blamed it on being tired. Now I'm rethinking my whole safety approach versus just getting work done. Has anyone else had a wake-up call about their shop air that made them change things?

Yikes, my old shop fan just blew dust everywhere.

That's exactly why my headaches stopped after I finally got a real dust collector.

Huh, I mean maybe it helped but are we sure it wasn't just a coincidence? A dust collector is nice and all but I can't imagine a little dust giving you legit headaches.
