Warning: I was using a cheap propane torch for years before switching to a proper oxy-propane setup
The difference in heat control is night and day, especially for working on larger pieces like 20-inch vases. My color application is way more even now. Anyone else make this switch and have tips on adjusting the flame?

Honestly, that upgrade path is so real. I remember burning through so many cheap torches on smaller projects before I finally caved and got a real setup. The learning curve for the new flame was a bit steep at first, but totally worth it in the end.

That first week with the new torch was pure frustration, but it clicks eventually.

I was reading this old forum thread from a glassblower in Portland who said it took him like two months to really get comfortable with the oxy-propane. He kept going back to his old torch because he was frustrated. But once he dialed in the oxygen to propane ratio just right for his big pieces, he said it was like upgrading from a bic lighter to a proper stove burner. The main tip he gave was to practice on scrap glass for a solid week before touching any actual work, just to get the muscle memory down for adjusting the flame on the fly without thinking.
