Update: Found weird growth on my snake plant base

I was checking my snake plant and saw this fluffy white stuff at the bottom. It looks like mold or maybe some kind of fungus. I have no clue what caused it or if it's dangerous. Can anyone help me figure out what to do next? I really don't want it to kill my plant or spread around.

Ugh, that fluffy white stuff is almost definitely mold from too much water. I read that snake plants hate wet feet and this happens when the soil stays damp. You need to get that plant out of its pot right now. Brush off all the old, wet soil and check the roots for rot, which will be brown and mushy. Repot it in fresh, dry cactus mix and for god's sake, don't water it again until the soil is bone dry.

Yeah, the "bone dry" rule is key. I learned that the hard way when I lost my first snake plant to overwatering. Now I wait until the soil feels like dust, and it's been much happier.

Wait, soil that feels like actual dust? That sounds crazy dry to me. I get the whole "bone dry" thing but I've always pictured that as just the top couple inches being totally dry, not the whole pot turning into a desert. If I stuck my finger in and hit powder all the way down, I'd panic and think I killed it from neglect. You really let it get that dry every single time and it's fine? That plant must be part cactus.
