Looking back, my early portfolio got wrecked by fees. Do new investors still run into that?

Honestly, it's a different world now. Remember when buying a stock cost you ten bucks just for the trade? Now most apps let you do that for free. Even index funds have tiny fees, like a few dollars a year per thousand invested. So newbies can easily avoid the fee nightmare if they pick the right stuff. They're too busy losing money on risky bets instead.

Isn't this the same story with so many things that got cheaper and easier? Look at how we shop online now. You can find any item at a low price, but then folks end up buying clutter they don't need because it was a "good deal." The access makes us careless, not smarter, just like jumping into flashy stocks.

My buddy Mark jumped into crypto last year with no fees on his trades. He kept chasing hype coins he saw on social media, pouring in cash every week. By the time he sold, he'd lost half the money he put in, and not from fees.
