Back when I actually planned dinner, not just stared at the fridge

I remember 10 years ago I'd have a whole week of meals mapped out, even wrote grocery lists on paper. Now I just open the fridge at 6pm and pray something edible appears. Last Tuesday I threw together canned chickpeas, half a onion, and some old cumin into a skillet and called it curry. Anyone else's cooking skills just degrade over time or is it just me?

Oh man, I used to get kinda judgey when people talked about their cooking skills getting worse because I thought it was just laziness. But now I'm like, wait no, it's actually this weird thing where you just stop caring as much about planning and more about just getting food in your stomach. I mean, I totally get it now because that chickpea and onion thing honestly sounds better than half the stuff I've been making lately.

Oh man, that's basically my whole cooking journey right there. I started keeping a jar of "fridge dump" seasoning mix on hand just for nights like that, a blend of cumin, paprika, garlic powder, and salt. Makes whatever sad combo you throw together taste vaguely intentional.
