Vent: Saw a guy's Jeep on the Rubicon Trail last weekend running street tires

I was out on the Rubicon Trail near Georgetown last Saturday and watched this dude in a lifted JK try to crawl over the slab section with what looked like stock highway tires. He was spinning and slipping everywhere while a stock Tacoma on some half-dead mud tires just walked past him. It got me thinking - are people too focused on lift kits and bumpers when the real grip comes from rubber? I've seen builds with 4 inches of suspension lift and tiny 33s that struggle, while my buddy's XJ on 35s with no lift cruises through. Which matters more to you guys - getting the tire setup right first or making it look tall and aggressive?

People get way too caught up in looks over function in everything, not just Jeeps. I see it at the grocery store too with people driving jacked up trucks that have never seen a dirt road, all chrome and no use. The tire contact patch is where all the magic happens, you could have a monster lift but if your rubber is wrong you're just making noise. It's like buying a fancy kitchen knife set but never learning how to chop an onion... all show and no go. Your buddy's XJ proves that point perfectly, it's about what touches the ground not what's sitting up in the air. I'd rather have a boring looking rig that crawls like a goat than a shiny mall crawler that can't make it up a wet hill.
