My mom told me my dog bed looked like a sad beanbag, so I redid the whole thing
She said the filling was clumping up and the cover was too thin, so I switched to shredded memory foam and double layered canvas. Anyone else get brutal honesty from family that actually made your craft better?

Forcing yourself to actually listen to the harsh stuff is the real skill here, and @nina_hall nailed it, but there's also a weird secret: sometimes family criticism is really just them seeing the mess you're too close to notice, so it doubles as a design shortcut. Once you decode that, every project gets better without you having to beg for feedback.

My aunt told me my first attempt at a quilt looked like "a drunk octopus did the stitching" - honestly she WAS right and it made me actually learn how to sew straight lines. Sometimes family tough talk is the BEST feedback even when it stings.
