Lost my favorite spotting spot to a chain-link fence
Tbh I showed up at my usual spot near runway 28 at DFW last Saturday and they'd put up a whole construction fence overnight. Ended up finding a gap in the bushes behind a gas station that actually gives a better view of the 777s landing. Has anyone else had to scramble for a new spot after getting blocked out?
Man that SUCKS. I drove all the way out to my old spot by runway 13 at PDX last month and found a literal wall of porta-potties blocking the view. Construction crews love to ruin EVERYTHING. Ended up climbing a random hill behind a Home Depot and got a killer shot of a 787 taking off though. Sometimes the universe forces you to upgrade your spot whether you like it or not.
That spot behind the gas station near runway 28 actually sounds like a lucky break, I used to think losing a spot was the worst but now I see it can open up better angles. @mark731's story about climbing that hill at PDX totally changed my mind too, sometimes getting blocked forces you to find something you wouldn't have tried otherwise. I ended up with a clearer view of the 777 gear going down from my new spot, so I'm almost grateful for that stupid fence.
