Showerthought: I used to think the envelope fold was the ONLY way to store towels. Then I saw my neighbor's towel closet with everything rolled like fancy spa towels and I had to pick.
I was strictly an envelope fold person for YEARS. My neighbor in apartment 4B showed me her linen closet last week and every single towel was rolled up tight and standing on end. She said it makes it easier to grab one without messing up the stack. I tried it. Now I can't go back. The rolled ones also don't get those weird crease lines. Has anyone else switched folds based on a neighbor's setup?

Started rolling my towels after seeing a hotel housekeeper do it on a YouTube video and honestly it changed everything for me. They take up less space and I can grab just one without the whole pile tumbling down. The trick is rolling them tight enough that they stand up straight, then they hold their shape just fine.

Wait are you not bothered by towels that don't lay flat and neat anymore? I stuck with envelope folding because rolled towels always end up looking messy after a few days, like they're trying to escape the shelf. Plus I like being able to grab a whole stack at once when I'm doing laundry, not picking through a bunch of little tubes.
