A guy at a garage sale told me I was cleaning my vinyl with the wrong solution and now I use distilled water with a drop of dish soap instead of that expensive stuff

He pulled out a stack of old jazz records he'd cleaned that way for 40 years and they sounded Perfect, so I dumped my bottle of branded cleaner and never looked back.

Man, I gotta say I'm honestly kind of skeptical about using dish soap on records. I mean, dish soap can leave residues and the surfactants might actually strip the vinyl over time if you're not super careful. Idk, I've heard stories of people using that method and ending up with static or weird film on the records after a bunch of cleanings. Maybe it's just me being paranoid but I'd rather spend the cash on a proper cleaner than risk messing up my collection for a few bucks saved.

Pfft, says the guy who probably also believes you need gold-plated HDMI cables to get the full picture. I've ruined more records by trying to be fancy than my cheapo dish soap method ever did, but hey, maybe my ears are just broken from all those garage sale finds.
