inRant: I think we're too quick to condemn topping trees in every single case
Hold up, I gotta disagree here. That kind of cut can really hurt the tree long term, even if it stays up. It opens the door for decay and weak growth, @alice_anderson35. A total removal and replanting with a better species is often the safer, better choice for everyone in the long run.

inCan we talk about the old book repair station at the St. Louis library
Remember they also made things that were total junk back then, they just didn't survive. We only see the good stuff that lasted. My grandma had a drawer full of broken tools from the 50s. We're comparing the best of the past to the average of today, which isn't really fair. Plus, that bone folder works because its job never changed, try finding a 70 year old phone.

inQuestion about a job fair I went to in Denver last month
Was it one of the big tech companies or a local Denver firm? I've seen that too, and it always makes me question if they're just there because HR told them to fill a seat. Did they even have any real info about open roles?

inTried a 72 hour short rib braise and it turned to mush
Yeah, I'm basically a raccoon with a kitchen now.
