That 4th of July party changed how I build snack plates forever

Went to a cookout at my buddy's place in Cleveland last weekend and he served this one board that totally threw me. He had these little cups of mixed berries with a pinch of black pepper and a drizzle of honey, right next to the cheese block. I always just throw a pile of grapes on the plate and call it a day, but the pepper thing actually made the fruit pop with the cheddar. It hit me that I've been ignoring how fruit can tie the salty and savory stuff together, not just sit there as filler. Now I'm thinking about adding a small bowl of spiced fruit to every plate I build. Anyone else try something like this with their fruit toppings?

Nah, pepper on fruit sounds like a gimmick that just masks bland berries.
