Shoutout to the guy who caught my wire bundle mistake before takeoff
I was working a Cessna 172 at a small shop near Wichita last Tuesday. Had just finished tacking down a bundle of shielded wires behind the panel, felt good about it. Then one of the senior techs walked by, stopped, and pointed out I had a loop that could pinch against a metal bracket during vibration. I blew it off at first, told him it was fine. But he made me pull it and reroute. Three hours later I found the bracket had a sharp edge I missed. If that wire chafed through mid-flight, that's a fire in the cockpit or worse. I'm still annoyed he was right but it made me think - when do you stand your ground vs listen to the old timer? Has anyone else had a call like that where the fix felt unnecessary but saved your ass later?

Three hours for one wire? That's insane.

That shortcut would have cost way more than three hours in the end.

Right? Every time I try a shortcut it ends up like that time I tried to fix my own dryer. Three hours and a few choice words later I had to call someone anyway. My grandpa always said the shortest path is the one you didn't have to double back on. Guess he was right about that and about not using a butter knife as a screwdriver. Live and learn I guess, but mostly just live and break more stuff.
