A neighbor told me his flock got mites from a bag of pine shavings
He said he bought a fresh bale from the feed store and within a week, his birds were scratching like crazy. The vet confirmed it was northern fowl mites. I always check for bugs in feed bags now, but I never thought about bedding. I've started freezing new bags for a full day before using them. Has anyone else had mites show up from something other than wild birds?

Yikes, that's a new nightmare. I once got them from a secondhand coop I brought home. Now I quarantine everything that touches the flock.
