Showerthought: Bought a $40 cable toner that just beeped at everything

Turns out it was a cheap knockoff that couldn't tell the difference between a live coax line and a phone wire. Anyone know a good brand that actually works?

That story about the Greenlee sounds familiar. I read a forum post last week where a guy said his cheap toner just lit up on every wire in the wall. It seems like paying for a known brand really is the move here.

Wait, is that the same post where the guy's toner kept beeping at his own shadow? I swear the cheap ones are basically random number generators. Had a similar thing happen with a no-name brand from a sketchy website, it would light up if you breathed on it wrong. Never again, just bite the bullet and get the good stuff.
