Wasted $60 on a variant cover that wasn't even rare

I grabbed an exclusive variant of Ultimate Spider-Man #1 last month for $60 thinking it'd be worth something later. Turns out the print run was huge and it's selling for maybe $15 now on eBay. I should've checked the print numbers first. Anyone else get burned by a so-called 'limited' variant?

Dang sixty bucks down the drain on a fake limited run?

Ngl, I kinda see it differently though. A $60 lesson on print runs is cheap compared to what some folks lose on graded books or variants that tank after the movie hype dies. Honestly, if you loved the cover and it looks good on your wall, it's not a total loss even if the resale value flopped.

yeah this is exactly why i always wait a month or two before buying any variant now. the hype is always way higher than the actual demand especially with all the second printings and retailer exclusives they pump out. $60 is brutal but at least you learned the lesson earlier than later. for future reference check the print run numbers on sites like comichron or even just ask your LCS what the allocation was. most shops will tell you straight up if it's actually limited or just another cash grab.
