Warning: my comms went dead at 90 feet on a bridge piling job

I was working on a bridge piling in Tampa, cutting away old growth. My comms just cut out, total silence. I had to switch to rope signals with my tender, three sharp pulls for 'up'. We finished the cut and got me out safe. Anyone have a good fix for a comms unit that fails when it gets a little banged up?

So you're saying the expensive lifeline tech is less reliable than a piece of string?

Man, that's a scary one. Going silent that deep on a piling job, with all that metal around you, must have been a real gut punch. Rope signals are a lifesaver, but it really shows how we depend on those comms. Glad you got the cut finished and got back up safe. That kind of failure when it gets jostled is way too common.

Ever think a backup plan was overkill until reading this?
