I bought a $200 'universal' tile saw blade that fit absolutely nothing
Got it for a big kitchen job in Tacoma, thinking it would save me a trip to the supplier. The arbor hole was just slightly off for every saw I tried, even my backup one. Ended up having to buy the right blade anyway and now I have a very expensive, oddly shaped paperweight. Has anyone else fallen for a tool that was supposed to fit everything but fit nothing?

Ugh, I've totally been there with a "universal" wrench that was useless for every bolt I tried!

Universal tools are rarely perfect but they get the job done in a pinch. It's not like you're building a spaceship with the thing. What were you even trying to fix?

Had a universal socket set once that stripped a hex bolt on my lawnmower deck. Now I just pay the local shop, cheaper than replacing stripped parts.

And @faithb78 , I get what you're saying about getting the job done, but believe me, a stripped bolt is a whole new level of headache. After the second time that happened to me, I just bought a proper set of individual sockets for the common sizes. Cost me twenty bucks and saved my lawnmower from a trip to the shop.
