I used to think a quick text was fine for job updates, but a client in Seattle changed my mind.
For years, I'd just send a short text when I was running late or had a question. Last month, a client in Seattle told me point blank, 'I need everything in the app's chat log so I can show my HOA.' I realized all my texts were getting lost in their phone, and they had no record for their own paperwork. Now I make sure every single update, even if it's just 'on my way, 15 min out,' goes through the messaging system we set up. It only takes a second more but keeps everything straight. How do you guys handle keeping a clear record for clients who need it?

Oh man, that hits home. I had a client get really upset because they couldn't find my text about a schedule change, and it turned into a whole thing. Now I'm super strict about using the project management app for everything, even just confirming I got their email. It feels a bit formal sometimes, but it saves so much headache later. What app are you using for the chat log?

Last year I had a parent claim I never told them about a field trip, but I found the email in my sent folder. Like @iris_mason88 said, it feels formal, but now I use our school portal for every tiny update. It saved me so much trouble. Do you find clients push back on the extra step?
