Back in the day I'd run my cutterhead at full power all the time, but after burning through three impellers in a single season on the Columbia, I keep it at 80% and let the suction do more work.

Anyone else find that dialing back the aggression actually gets the material up faster on a long shift?

Three impellers in one season, that's a real expensive way to learn that lesson.

Yeah, that reminds me of the time I kept burning out bilge pumps. Turns out I was using the wrong kind of float switch.

My buddy's boat went two years with the wrong switch and nothing blew up. Hard to believe it's that big a deal, nina_sullivan61.
