Was dead set against ceramic coated crucibles till my buddy made me try one
I been doing iron work for about 8 years now and always used the standard clay graphite crucibles. Kept hearing guys talk about ceramic coated ones lasting longer but figured it was just sales hype. My buddy Dave from the shop down in Akron finally talked me into trying one last month after I melted through my third crucible in six months. Man I gotta say I was wrong about these things. That ceramic coating held up way better than I expected through like 15 pours now and it's still going strong. The slag release is way easier too doesn't stick like it does on the raw clay graphite. Still costs more upfront but I'm starting to think it pays off in the long run. Any of you guys made the switch and had the same experience or am I just getting lucky?

Man that Dave sounds like a good guy to have around. Reminds me of the time I was trying to convince my cousin to switch from flux to borax in his forge - took him three years but now he swears by it. But yeah these ceramic coated ones got me thinking maybe Dave's onto something with the whole trying new stuff thing. Might have to look into one myself.

THREE years to switch from flux to borax?" That is WILD, I would have given up after the first burn through.

Nah, some things are worth the wait, flux is way cheaper if you know how to use it right.
