I heard a guy at the coffee shop say he only works 4 hours a day now

He was talking to someone about his freelance copywriting, saying he raised his rates and cut his hours after reading some book. I mean, it sounded great, but idk, maybe it's just me but that feels like a trap for new people. I've been doing this for three years and if I tried that next month, I'd miss my rent. Has anyone actually made that switch without a huge savings cushion first?

I tried that last year after reading a similar book, lmao. My plan was to go from 30 hours to 20. I lasted about six weeks before I was digging into my emergency fund for groceries. You really need those high-paying clients locked in first.

I did the exact same thing back in 2019 after reading "The 4 Hour Workweek." I cut from 35 hours down to 25 and told myself it'd be fine. Three months later my savings account was down to like 400 bucks and I was stressing about car repairs. The problem for me was I only had maybe 3 or 4 steady clients who paid decently, and the rest were low paying gigs that ate up all my time. I ended up having to go back to full time hours for almost another year before I felt comfortable scaling back again. So yeah, your mileage may vary but I'd definitely get those high paying clients locked down first before trying anything drastic.
