My main client's project got put on hold right after I paid my taxes

It happened about three weeks ago, and I had just sent a big check to the IRS. I felt sick for a day, thinking I was in real trouble. Then I sat down and looked at my list of past clients from last year. I sent five short, friendly emails asking if they needed any small jobs done. Two of them got back to me with quick work that filled the gap! It wasn't a huge amount, but it covered groceries and kept me going. Has anyone else had to scramble like that after a client suddenly goes quiet?

Smart move reaching out to past clients. Did you have a system for keeping those contacts warm, or was it just a quick check-in out of the blue? That's a great habit to build on.

What kind of stuff do you actually say in those check-ins?

That "quick check-in out of the blue" can actually feel more genuine sometimes.
