I thought the $300 'color bar' technique was just a gimmick until I tried it on a vase last week

My uncle is a museum conservator and he pointed out that the technique is basically a controlled version of chemical patination. The expensive kit just gives you the exact pigments and binders that react in a predictable way, which is why cheap craft paint can't copy it. It's less about the colors and more about the science of the medium.

My friend Sarah said the same thing, she thought it was just some overpriced art trend. Then she tried it on an old ceramic planter she had. The way the colors layered was nothing like her usual paints, it created this crazy depth. She sent me a picture and I was honestly shocked, it looked like a totally different piece. Now she's looking at all her plain decor thinking about what color bar to try next. It really does seem to change your whole approach.
